Car Battery Installation Steps

If you’re looking for car battery installation near me, the closest place to change your car battery is in your own garage. You’ll need a wrench, battery cleaning solution, the new battery, wire brush, pliers, and anti-corrosion spray. Next, follow the instructions below:

  1. Turn the engine off and put on the parking brake.
  2. Open the hood and find the battery.
  3. Loosen the nut connecting the negative, black cable from the battery using a wrench.
  4. Twist and pull the cable off once the nut is loose. Don’t try to pry the nut off as this can damage the battery. Wiggle the nut back and forth or use an anti-seize agent to release it.
  5. Using the same steps above, remove the positive, red cable from its terminal.
  6. Loosen and remove the clamps that hold in the battery.
  7. Lift the battery out with both hands as batteries are heavy and dropping one could cause it to break and leak.
  8. Use anti-corrosion spray to remove any corrosion from the battery tray and clamps. Aside from anti-corrosion spray, you can use a baking soda and water solution.
  9. Take the wire brush and clean off the battery cable connectors.
  10. Place the new battery in the tray and tighten the hold-down clamps.
  11. Spray the anti-corrosion solution on the positive (+) and negative (-) terminal of the new battery to prevent corrosion and extend battery life.
  12. Attach the red (positive) battery cable first and the black (negative) cable second.
  13. Check the connections and the battery to make sure they’re secure.
  14. Start the car to test that the battery is working. If you have any issues, contact us at Bennett INFINITI of Wilkes-Barre and we can be of assistance.
